How to choose a pipe threading machine?

Pipe threading machine are commonly used when we need to cut threads on pipe end for connecting two steel pipes in a pipeline construction project.

There is mainly five different types of threading machine in China. This article is a brief introduction of the difference between the below five types threading machines.

COMPACT ELECTRIC PIPE THREADING MACHINE

Application: The weight of an on-site compact pipe threading machine are usually from 50kgs to 200kgs, it can be moved by two man and installed in the construction site on pipe leg or wheel cart. This machine is popular used in the site for water pipe threading. In the US it is called pipe threader while in other region people call it pipe threading machine.

Price: From around USD190.00 to USD1500.00

Feature: This machine usually comes with threading dies, cutting blade and reamer. It can make thread on the end of metal pipe, then cutting down the threaded pipe section with the pipe cutter and make chamfering on the inner side of pipe end. We need manually insert a steel pipe through the clamping chuck, tightening the front and rear chuck to make sure the machine hold the pipe tightly, then we adjust the opening distance of the chaser/teeth on the die head to fit different diameter tubes as well as the threading length, after we turn on the machine the machine will rotate the pipe automatically, in the meantime we have to manually swing the handle to let threading die head approaching the pipe.

Type: If we simply divide the threading machines into top high quality / medium quality / economic quality, then in this industry, the most famous brand are RIDGID, REX, ASADA, while some European brand are mostly getting OEM machine from other manufacturer in China. Considering the compatibility, nowadays in China we also have machine that have dies interchangeable with big name brand. However, if we divide the machines by the motor types, there will be induction type and universal type. Here in China 95% pipe threader are made in induction motor because in the early time universal motor in China is not as stable as today. Sometimes, we got some motor burnt case when we face heavy load threading work, the universal motor speed is higher and when the loading are a little higher than the capacity it will lower the speed and will not break down easily, however as we know the universal motor has louder noise than indudction motor and you need to replace carbon brush.

INTELLIGENT SEMI-AUTOMATIC PIPE THREADING MACHINE

Application: This machine is heavy but actually it is designed to use in the construction site. It has got wheel on it for moving. In a word, benefit of this machine is high effeciency and the worker no need to adjust die head and dies when we change to different diameter pipes.

Price: Around USD10,000.00

Feature: The automatic pipe threading machine can recognize the different diameter pipes automatically. The chuck will adjust itself to fit and clamp all size pipes, compared with traditional pipe threader, it can save much labour cost and achieve high speed pipe threading. The threading dies are made of a special material and processed by heattreatment, the life span of our die can be up to 2000pcs pipes. The machine are in higher precision than that of a traditional on site pipe threader, the threading teeth will be perfect and smooth. This ensure reliable pipeline connection in the water pipe construction project as well as the fire fighting pipeline building. Within 3.9 seconds this machine can make one complete threads for diameter less than 50mm pipe,  the speed is 10 times compared with a traditional on-site pipe threader.

Type: So far only one type available, this machine is new, developed in China. Besides, we also have automatic pipe fitting rotating machine built on this threading machine prototype which can rotate the steel pipe with pipe fittings. This automatic machine will replace the human hand work, which makes the pipeline connecting work effeciency much more higher than before.

AUTOMATIC FEEDING PIPE THREADING MACHINE

Application: Use in factory for mass production of pipe threading work. We can choose single threading machine or add automatic pipe feeding unit and pipe loader. This is suitable for fully automatic pipe feeding and thread cutting.

Price: Around USD40000.00 including automatic feeding unit and pipe loader

Feature: This machine is fully automatic, as long as we put bundles pipes on the pipe loader, it will pick up pipes one by one and feed them into the main threading machine. If we put two threading machine after one pipe threading is done, machine will feed the pipe to another machine to make threading one another end of the steel pipe.  Our company also have successful project of installation of an automatic pipe threading line in singapore. 

Type: The main threading machine can work as a semi-automatic machine, manually insert the pipe and the machine will make the thread on pipe. Add pipe loader and feeding table the feed-in and feed-out process can be fully automatic. Further more, if we prepare an automatic feeding pipe cutting machine aside, the 6 meters raw pipe after being cutted to short section, it can roll down automatically to the pipe loader of this auto threading machine, so that the complete process of cutting and threading can be down automatically.

HAND-HELD PIPE THREADER

Application: Electric hand pipe threader is the perfect portable power threader for maintance and repair workers, as well as service plumbers. This kind of threader only works up to 2 inch, no bigger size available.

Price: Around USD150.00 to USD300.00

Feature: This hand hold pipe threader is comparably light weight. Since there is no chuck as compact pipe threading machine, you need to fix a pipe to the pipe vise and add threading oil with an oil gun and basket. The die head rotation is two direction with reverse, so that after threading it can return from the pipe.

Type: We have heavy duty portable pipe threading machine with 12-r compatible dies, the heavy duty machine work well for even black steel pipe threading. Economic type is also in option with good price. Heavy duty models adopt supertronic 7 grade gear structure, while the economic one use worm gear structure.

MANUAL PIPE THREADER

Application: Fully manual threading tools. Popular in such as Bangladesh, where people prefer low cost tools rather than high effeciency.

Price: USD15.00-USD150.00

Feature: Manual ratchet pipe threader consist of handle, die head holder and die head. Die head size available 1/4”, 3/8”, 1/2″, 3/4″, 1″, 1 1/4″, 1 1/2″, 2″ BSPT and NPT.

Type: Below is the manual pipe threader for water pipe manual threader. There is also manual threader for EMT electricity tube for thin wall tube manual threading.
