Difference between universal motor and induction motor pipe threading machine

Universal motor is a DC type motor, the armature connects to the outer DC power, while induction motor is AC type motor which contains rotor and stator. Universal motor are commonly used in low speed and high torque application such as heavy machinery and concrete mixer, while the induction motor are for application of high speed constant power output such as fan and centrifugal pump.

Both induction motor and universal motor are widely used in on-site pipe threading machine and hand-held pipe threader.

INDUCTION MOTOR
The output power of induction motor on threading machine is stable and the life span seems longer, 80% made in China pipe threader are equipped with induction motor. The induction motor structure is simple it connects directly to the input power no need speed regulator. But this motor is not suitable for high speed work.

UNIVERSAL MOTOR
The advantage of universal motor when it is on a pipe threading machine will be wide range of speed, high precision of torque. The start torque is big, it shows more power when you are doing thread on a hard pipe. What’s more, the size of universal motor is smaller than induction motor, so it is better choice for compact machine. However, the noise of universal motor is bigger, usually around 80dB. The carbon brush inside is wearing-parts, need to have some replacement with machine.
